Below is information on the BLock of the Month Programs we offer and several knitting patterns we wholesale.

So what is a Block of the Month?  It is a something I used to see Quilting Stores offer and I always enjoyed them, so I decided to create one for my Knitting Store.  It has turned into a great monthly sales program and just keeps getting bigger and better.  I have done this for three years now and  has been a huge success each year.  The Knitting Block of the Month is a program that you sign up your Customer and you give them a monthly project (pattern and yarn) to complete and it is part of a larger project, like an afghan and wrap.  This is a way to make any project something you can complete without making the project too large, complex or expensive to do at one time.  You also get these Customers in the store more often and they will see the new items you have available.  Each block is different from the previous block, and you will learn new techniques or stitches throughout the year.  Learning new stitches, creating a beautiful afghan, being able to do it with your friends, you will have the makings of a very successful program for your store.

We are offering multiple different Block of the Month Programs listed below, you get the patterns to complete the project and the right to copy them for the number of people you get signed up in your store.  You also get a detail guide on marketing ideas, a list of all the things you need to know to run the program and more...you will not be disapointed in the results.

2010 Block of the Month "PaPa's Log Cabin" starting January 2010.  This project used Mission Falls 1824 Wool, 100% Merino Superwash for the afghan, it feels great and has wonderful colors.  This project also teaches Customer to pick up stitches so there is no need to sew pieces together at the end.  Call 281-379-7306 or e-mail us to get your wholesale pattern

Log Cabin - The HISTORY Behind the design

1. Traditionally the block had a light side (happiness) and dark side (sorrow) to represent life in a home.

2. The yellow or red centre would represent a hearth in a home (red) or a candle left burning to guide a family member home at night (yellow). There has been some controversy to having a black centre. This is rumoured to represent a safe haven/comfort for escaping slaves during the Civil War.

3. In sewing the log cabin block, it is sewn from the centre out representing the building of a home, one log at a time surrounding the hearth/heart in the middle.

The Log Cabin quilt became popular in the United States by the mid-nineteenth century. The Log Cabin pattern consist of strips of fabric (logs) sewn around a square fabric centre. The centre fabric square was traditional red to signify the fire on the hearth of the cabin. By careful placement of light and dark fabrics, different patterns were formed.

The Log Cabin quilt pattern has been a long standing favourite over the years due to the simplicity of the design as well as its versatility. In many of the old quilts the centre square was red. This was to symbolize the hearth of the home. Though the quilt was a favourite for years because it was a wonderful pattern for using up scraps of fabric, quilters today for the most part plan their log cabin quilts with great care and purchase the fabric specifically for the quilt.

The overall effect of the log cabin quilt is achieved by the use of light and dark fabrics and how they are arranged. The Log Cabin quilt became popular in the United States by the mid-nineteenth century .

< On the left is the Farmhouse Sampler Block of the Month Afghan and to the right is the Wrap with the same 12 stitches.  Remember, you will be getting your Customers to make both projects and work on it each month when they get their yarn and pattern.

Both of these are the Stephanie's Sampler Afghan, they are the same stitches shown in two colors.  This is a real eye catcher in your store and you will get people asking about it all the time.

< This is the MaMa's Sampler Afghan Block of the Month Program, we used a thick and thin yarn by Cascade.  It looks great and will be a great project for anyone.

 > To the rights you see a Socks of Fun program that will have your sock knitters excited, they will make one sock a month (6 pairs) by the end of the year, each one a different pattern and you choose from double point or circular patterns.

Both of these have ben very popular, your Customers would really enjoy them.  Simple patterns to felt a Easter Bunny Purse or Snowman Purse.
